The Leica M look, for cinema

Leitz HUGO brings Leica M photography optics into professional cinematography. Built on the Leitz M 0.8 series, they keep its rendering: rich colours, characteristic flares and a rounded image field. They are named after Hugo Wehrenfennig, the Leitz engineer who helped create the M bayonet.

Very fast and compact

The HUGO I series is T1.5 (the 135 mm is T1.9), among the fastest full-frame lenses available, completed by the 50 mm T1.0 and the HUGO II series at T2.1 (66, 75 and 90 mm). They are light (from around 0.82 kg) and focus very close.

Rendering with soul

Sharp wide open without harshness, with lower contrast, natural fall-off, strong bokeh and edge fall-off at the faster stops. 43.3 mm image circle (full frame) and circular 11-blade iris.

Cine mechanics

95 mm front with M92 thread, matched ring positions across the set, 270° focus rotation and scales that switch easily between metric and imperial. Interchangeable LPL or L mount, with optional Leitz iD metadata.

Compatibility

The rear element protrudes past the LPL mount into the camera body, so check compatibility before mounting. They work, for example, on ARRI ALEXA 35, ALEXA LF and Mini LF, RED V-RAPTOR and KOMODO with an RF to LPL adapter, and Leica SL. Sony VENICE requires Leitz’s dedicated LPL mount. Not compatible with RED DSMC2, film cameras or V-RAPTOR XL (except the 90 mm T1.5 and 50 mm T1.0). Ask us about your setup.
